Linda’s Book Obsession Reviews “The Splendor Before the Dark” by Margaret George, Berkley Publishing, October 8, 2019

Margaret George, Author of “The Splendor Before the Dark” has written an intriguing, intense, captivating, and informative novel. The Genre for this novel is Historical Fiction. This takes place during the time that Nero is Emperor in Rome. The author describes the 3 “personalities” of Nero.

I appreciate the detailed and vivid descriptions of the times and the characters. This is a page-turning book and describes the betrayals and history of Rome and Greece at that time.  Nero has an appreciation of poetry, acting, and the arts, and often brings them to his court. In addition, Nero also has the reputation of being one of the few emperors that would do chariot racing.

Nero believed in the powers of the Gods and often based decisions on those powers. After fires almost caused the collapse of Rome, Nero did step in and try to rebuild.  I would recommend this powerful historical fiction novel.
