Rica Ramos, the Author of “Nobody’s Daughter,” has written an honest, sincere memoir and non-fiction book. Based on her recollections, the author writes about her conflicts and ambivalent views of motherhood and family.
The author’s stepfather was abusive to her and her sister. Her mother had blinders on when it came to him. Although there are always choices, the author said there were often wrong choices. On the other hand, the author points out several times that her mother did help her and her family. This often causes Rica Ramous to reflect on her own role as a mother.
Rica Ramos has to decide whether she can extend an invitation to her mother for her wedding. The author does want her mother there, but not the stepfather. The author also reflects on her relationship with her biological father.
The author discusses the importance of family and relationships with mothers, fathers, and children. I would recommend this heartfelt and emotional book. I appreciate how the author shows us that “the pen is mightier than the sword” in this memoir.
