“The Water Tower” by Amy Young is an intriguing and captivating novel. The genres are mystery, thriller, suspense, and fiction. The timeline is set in the present and goes to the past regarding the characters and events. The location for this story is set in a small town. The author describes her dramatic characters as complex and complicated. The female protagonist, Josie Ashbury, is a famous Hollywood actress taking time out and working as a teacher in a small town in Ohio. Josie had a breakdown and is an insomniac. Josie is trying to pull herself together and have a normal life.
When a student of Josie’s mysteriously dies after being on a water tower, Josie’s life becomes more complicated. The case of the student’s death is closed quickly, yet Josie is not convinced that there are enough answers. As Josie becomes more involved, there are other disturbing tragedies. There are secrets, twists and turns, and strange occurrences that don’t seem to have any answers. The more Josie gets involved, there is more danger and death.
This is an edgy novel that I would recommend to others. I hope the author is writing a sequel to tie up some loose ends. There are some surprises and interesting suspects.
