Michelle Cox, the Author of “A Haunting at Linley,” has written a suspenseful and mysterious novel. This is the seventh book in the “Henrietta and Inspector Howard Novel” series and can be read as a stand-alone, but I feel it would be a better experience to read the other books. The location for this novel is set mostly in Castle Linley in England and the United States, and the timeline is the 1930’s. The Genres for this novel are Mystery, Suspense, Historical Fiction, and Amateur Sleuth. In this well-written novel, Michelle Cox is an amazing storyteller. She vividly describes the scenery, landscape, style and dress, and her dramatic and colorful characters.
Henrietta and Clive have returned to England to help his cousin Wallace sort out the financial matters of the estate regarding Castle Linly. Not only is the Castle in financial ruin but there is a rumor and feel of ghosts. Lady Linly is not well; she has relatives and a suspicious new friend. There is a concern about what will happen to the estate when Lady Linly dies. There are twists and turns, secrets, surprises, betrayals and deaths. Henrietta and Clive start investigating, and Clive is called away on business. Henrietta is still investigating, and there are some suspicious characters. There is also danger. I would highly recommend this captivating and intense novel.
