Susan Azim Boyer, the Author of “The Search for Us,” has written an intriguing story. The genres for this book are Contemporary Fiction, Coming of Age, Family, and Fiction. This well-written novel’s characters are complex, complicated, flawed, and dysfunctional. The author discusses important contemporary topics such as alcoholism, drug dependency, PTSD, High School Stressors, abandonment issues, adult responsibility, and the importance of family and friends.

Samira is a senior in High School but seems to be placed in the “adult capacity” of handling the finances and taking care of her older brother, who drinks too much. When she uses her funds set aside for college to bail her brother out of jail, she takes a DNA test to see if she can find the father who abandoned her when she was little.

Henry is a senior and lives in an extended family with 2 Moms and a father. He never seems to be good enough to please his father. When he feels pressured, he takes a DNA test to locate his biological father, who abandoned him.

The DNA results confirm that Samira and Henry are biological siblings. Both are looking to find themselves and team up to find their “Biological” father. There are twists, turns, and disappointments, yet this is a heartfelt and emotional journey. I would highly recommend this book to others.
