I was spellbound and captivated by M.J.Rose, Author “Forgetting to Remember”. M.J.Rose is a master storyteller and describes the beauty of Art in her novels. The genres for this novel are Historical Fiction, Magical Realism, Romance, Time-travel, and Romance. There are two time-lines in this novel. One is set approximately in 1867, and the other is set after World War Two. The story goes to the past or present when it pertains to the characters or events, I appreciate the author’s research into both time periods, and the art. The author describes the enchanting artistic creations of the earlier time period, and vividly describes the scenery, the landscape and her colorful and dramatic characters.

The female protagonist in the story, Jeannine Maycroft is the “Keeper of the Metalworks at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London” Jeannine comes from a family that had “unique” talents. Jeannine is searching for what her special talent is. As she is examining older pieces of art, she is magically drawn to an exquisite brooch of a man’s eye surrounded by opals. Little does she know what this will mean to her. At this time in history, as men are coming home from the War, she is required to share her position with a man that she had bad history with. To save her career, she has to enter and win a special event.

When she accidentally sticks herself with the brooch of the eye portrait, she is transported back in time to 1867, where she meets the artists of the time, and the man, Ashe she was attracted to. Jeannine and Ashe fall in love. Jeannine has to find a way to go both forward and back in time. Jeannine knows that she can change Ashe’s history, but will she be able to. At the same time, can she save her job in the present, and help her father is in trouble? Does Jeannine have a special talent?

I highly recommend this memorable, beautiful, and thought-provoking story.
