In this well-written novel of second chances, the author vividly describes, the plot, scenery, and the colorful and dramatic characters. The characters can be described as complex and complicated. Some are quirky, dysfunctional, relatable and moody. The main female protagonist, Lark Smith, a single Oncologist always tries to look on the bright side of things. She has a great support system from her twin sister, her separated parents, and some friends. Lark is being transferred to Emergency medicine, because she became too emotional in the Oncological department, and hopes to get back there for personal reasons.
Lark had been engaged, and due to tragic circumstances she is single. One of the most successful surgeons in the hospital, known as “Dr. Satan” for his attitude, offers Lark a solution. If she poses as his date for his sister’s wedding so his elderly Noni will have hope that he will settle down, he will try to get Lark back into Oncology. Lark agrees, and this adventure offers twists, turns and surprises.
I love the way Kristan Higgins writes in an emotional way that always brings me to tears. I appreciate that the author discusses the importance of family, friends, second changes, forgiveness, hope and love. This is a memorable and thought provoking story that pulls at my heartstrings, and that I highly recommend.
