Eliza Knight, the Author of “The Queen’s Faithful Companion” has written a delightful, enjoyable, captivating and intriguing Historical Fiction Book about Queen Elizabeth II’s first royal fur companion Susan. The author vividly describes the scenery, the locations, the historical highlights and the Complex Characters in this well written novel. The novel starts with an 18 year young Princess Elizabeth and her special Birthday gift, picked out by her father, the esteemed King of England. He brings home a Corgi, and Elizabeth names her Susan. While Elizabeth participates in England’s volunteer war efforts, Susan is watched by Hanna.

One part of the story is narrated by Susan, the Corgi, who loves and is very loyal to the Queen. As a dog-lover, I enjoyed some of the spirited dog’s adventures, and mishaps. When Elizabeth starts dating Philip, Susan is quite taken with Philip’s trouser bottoms, and has to learn to get along with Philip. Being quite feisty and nippy, not all of the staff are big fans of Susan.

It is very touching when Elizabeth marries, has Charles and Ann, and becomes the Queen of England. If Susan could speak, she certainly would tell “tales”. I love the way Eliza Knight provides Susan’s interpretations and feelings. Susan also has puppies. The Royal Corgis are never sold, but given as gifts to special people. I highly recommend this memorable historical book.
