Amy White, the Author of “The Matriarch” has written a poignant and thought-provoking novel. The Genres for this Novel are Contemporary Fiction, Mother’s and Children Fiction, and Women’s Christian Fiction. The author discusses the roles of family members and the importance of family. There are betrayals, manipulating, scheming, lies, secrets and threats. The author vividly describes the dark dramatic characters as complex and complicated. Two of the characters are unlikeable, and I was emotionally invested in the lives in this story. When Grace, the Matriarch of the Family, passes away from Cancer, her husband Tom, who is a loyal Christian, wants to find a wife. His two daughters and their families are grieving, but will accept this. Only the once loving family will never be the same.
Tom marries Donna, a mean-spirited, jealous and controlling woman, that would like to be estranged from his family forever. Jenna, his daughter is trying to keep the family together, but at what cost? I highly recommend this well-written book.
