Aimie K. Runyan, the Author of “Mademoiselle Eiffel” has written a captivating and intriguing Historical Novel. In this well written novel, the Genres are Historical French Fiction, Women’s Sagas, Women’s Historical Fiction, and Adult Fiction. The author vividly describes the French scenery, food and dramatic and colorful characters in the nineteenth century. Aimie K. Runyan is an amazing storyteller and brings this novel about the Eiffel destiny to life.
Gustave Eiffel is known for building the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which has contributed to France’s culture, and brought many elite people to France. He also is known for the disaster attempting to build the Panama Canal. The Eiffel family is a strong and wealthy family. Perhaps the eldest daughter Claire Eiffel, has contributed to this story and her father’s success. When her mother passed away when Claire was fourteen, Claire helped raise her younger siblings, was in charge of household events, and accompanied her father on business trips. Claire took detailed notes for her father, and also voiced her opinions and beliefs. This was noteworthy as women didn’t have the same power as men. Claire’s younger sister married first, and Claire gave up her dreams of becoming an artist, to take these serious responsibilities on.
Eventually Claire marries Adolphe Salles, who is being groomed to take over for her father. In this powerful novel, the author discusses the importance of women’s contributions in history. The author also mentions the importance of family, friends, fairness, legacy, love and hope. I highly recommend this informative and memorable novel.
