Mansi Shah the author of “A Good Indian Girl” has written an intriguing and thought-provoking novel. In this well written novel, there is such a sensory approach to foods and environments. The author vividly describes the scenery, the plot, and the colorful and dramatic characters. The genres for this story are: Single Women Fiction, Fiction, and Contemporary Fiction. I appreciate the descriptions of the food and delicacies, and the author has kindly provided recipes for many of the dishes described.

Jyoti has always been the “Good Indian Girl” She did her best to please her parents, her family, her husband and the community. Jyoti was the head chef in her husband and her restaurant. After failed attempts at getting pregnant her husband leaves her, and her families expectations have changed. Jyoti loves to cook and combines her cultural ingredients, and especially enjoys making other people happy. Currently Jyoti is in Italy with her best friend contemplating what her future will be.

Jyoti is estranged from her mother and family, and is blamed for the divorce. Jyoti vents on social media, while she is preparing and cooking her speciality foods. She gets millions of views, and followers, but has angered her family even more. Jyoti is struggling with the balance of being herself, and always pleasing others.

I appreciate how the author discusses the importance of self, family, friends, neighbors, cultural pride and differences, love and hope. I highly recommend this heartfelt book.
