Mary Connealy, the Author of “Whispers of Fortune” has written a captivating, exciting and adventurous novel. The genres for this novel are Historical Fiction, Christian Fiction, Adventure, Mystery and Suspense and Romance. The dateline for the story takes place in 1875, mostly in California. The author describes her dramatic and colorful characters as complex, complicated, quirky, mischievous, and courageous. Some are greedy and calculating, and others are likable, relatable and giving. This is the first book in a planned series, but definitely is a stand alone. Two Hart Ranch in California is a working ranch and a safe haven for orphans. Ellie Hart and her family run the ranch, which provides teachers, food, clothing and shelter. One day, Brody MacKenzie, a young physician, arrives at Two Heart Ranch looking for his two mischievous brothers. The boys are safe and sound and have their grandfather’s journal which reveals some information about lost treasure. The boys feel that this treasure is in this vicinity.
The two brothers are fixated on this treasure, and seemed determined to run away again to find it. Brody has been helping patients at the ranch, and with Ellie and her brother Josh agree to try to find the truth and the possible treasure. There is a history of other people, who are looking for this treasure as well. Some of them are dangerous and have different schemes in mind. This is an edgy, intense, suspenseful book of adventure that I highly recommend for other readers. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
