I loved everything about “Come fly With Me” by Camille Di Maio, Author. In this well researched novel, Camille Di Maio has written in detail, such a wonderful captivating, intriguing, heartfelt and memorable story. The genres for this novel are Historical Fiction, Romance, Women’s Fiction, Travel and Friendship. The author provides a unique perspective in the history of Pan American Airlines, and the journey and flight that young women had to take to become stewardesses. The author vividly describes destinations, scenery, food, dress wear for the times, and her colorful and dramatic characters. The characters are complex, complicated, courageous, and adventurous.
Two of the female protagonists, Judy Goodman and Beverly Caldwell become best friends as begin their journey for a new life, and jobs as stewardesses. Each have their reason for wanting to fly away from their previous lives. Becoming a stewardess during the “golden era” of flying was looked upon as an achievement, Women had to take training and abide by strict rules. The timeline starts in 1962.
I appreciate that the author discusses emotional and physical abuse, the journey in finding oneself, the importance of family and friendship, and love and hope. I highly recommend this thought-provoking novel.
