Leslie A. Rasmussen, the Author of “When People Leave” has written a heartfelt, memorable, and thought-provoking novel. The Genres for this story are Sisters Fiction, Sibling Fiction, Domestic Fiction, and Mystery. In this well-written novel, the author vividly describes the scenery and the dramatic characters. The characters are described as complex, complicated, confused, flawed and mostly likable. I love that the author has included both a dog and cat. Three sisters with their own lives and problems are reunited after their mother’s death. The mother had saved a neighbors cat from a fire, which became newsworthy, and shortly after that took her own life. The sisters are grieving, and are determined to find out what the circumstances were that led to this tragic death.
They look for clues in their mother’s house, and question friends and acquaintances. This quest and mystery reveals betrayals, lies, secrets, love and the truth. I appreciate how the author discusses the complexities of love and protection, the importance of family and friends, sisterhood, love and hope. I highly recommend this emotional and captivating story.
