Laura decides to return to Italy, where her mother Viola came from. Laura seems to go back in time (in her mind) to when there was a little known war in Italy known as Italy’s Second World War. There is a picture in current time of a red house that her mother had painted. Somehow, Laura is determined to find this red house.
Mary Morris bring Viola to life in past Italy, with the truth of what she was hiding. Laura does discover the Red House and what it represents. She also meets several people who knew Viola.
The author discusses topics such as Coming of Age, betrayals, war, secrets, danger, death, loss ,the importance of family, friends, love and hope. I highly recommend this amazing novel.
