WOW! Clare Leslie Hall, the Author of “Broken Country” has written a powerful, memorable, captivating, emotional and thought-provoking. novel. The Genres for this novel are : Romance, Suspense, Thriller, Mystery, Literary Fiction, and Women’s Literary Fiction. In this well-written novel, Clare Leslie Hall vividly describes the landscape, scenery, plot, and the dramatic and colorful characters. The characters are described as complex and complicated. . There are dark secrets, betrayals, twists and turns, danger, mystery, suspense, and murder. I didn’t want to put this book down. This is one book that leaves you guessing, and certainly provides some unexpected surprises. The timelines for this story are the past, and the present.

Beth and Frank are happily married and work on the family farm. Frank’s father and brother work there as well. While Frank and his brother are tending to the sheep, a stray dog appears, and is wildly barking at the sheep, and the brother-in-law shoots the dog. The dog belongs to the neighbor, Gabriel’s young son, who is heartbroken. In the past, Gabriel and Beth had a relationship. Beth had been heartbroken when that relationship ended. Gabriel’s young son reminds Beth of the son that she and Frank lost in an accident.

Sometimes the past has a way of colliding with the future. Beth tries to help Gabriel’s son, and rekindles feeling with Gabriel, and she also loves Frank. This is a romantic triangle that becomes a suspenseful mystery, when one of the characters is murdered.

I appreciate that the author discusses the importance of family, friends, communication, honesty, forgiveness, second chances, love, and hope. I highly recommend this powerful book.
