Leanne Treese, the Author of “HOME” has written a powerful, captivating and emotional novel. The Genres for this novel Are: Contemporary Fiction, Women’s Fiction, and Family Fiction. In this well-written and thought-provoking novel, Leanne Treese vividly describes the scenery, the plot, and the dramatic and complex characters. I also love that animals are in this book. The female protagonist, Olivia Ellison is a successful attorney hoping for partnership in a big law firm in New York City. She receives a call notifying her that she is now the legal guardian of her half-brother, Lucas, who is autistic. Lucas lives in Greenwillow, Pennsylvania, and currently is being supervised by his caretaker Nate Wilder.

Olivia tries to find a placement for Lucas, and also tries to work for her firm from home Olivia has to make important decisions. Nate works well with Lucas, but his original goals were not to be a caretaker. Nate has some secrets and conflicts that he has to work out. Kudos to Leanne Treese for she providing Lucas a way to communicate with the reader, since he is non-verbal. This story is meaningful to me and reminds me when I was teaching and a non-speaking child on the autistic spectrum was placed in my class for a short time with a paraprofessional. At the end of the year, he started saying words, and the last session, he came over to me and said “pretty” pointing to me. (Sigh!!)

I love how the author discusses topics such as acceptance, belonging, friendship, communication, honesty, family, friends, love and hope. I highly recommend this heart-felt novel.
