Walter B. Levis has written a powerful and thought-provoking novel. The Genres for this story are Political Fiction, Thriller, Mystery, Psychological Thriller, and Terrorism. In this well written and intriguing story, the author vividly describes the settings, plot, and dark, complex and complicated characters. There is a feeling of moral choice, good and evil. The author discusses justice from the police and military, and does punishment fit the crime? There is also a psychological component of law enforcement’s legal responsibility compared to their personal beliefs.

The female protagonist, Eliana Golden was thirteen years old, when her father disappeared. Eliana’s father was considered to be modern orthodox Jewish, and was a compliance officer in a bank in New York. He discovered violations in the bank, and possible funding for terrorists. Her father felt the moral responsibility to expose this, and then went missing. As an adult, Eliana is convinced that her father was murdered. She becomes a Policewoman, and her underlying motivation is to discover what happened to her father. Often the lines blur, and Eliana tries to remind herself that she represents the law.

Eliana’s journey involves her meeting a dangerous man, who is aware what happened to her father. She embarks on a dangerous mission that involves terrorists, and deviances from the law. I appreciate how the author discusses the trauma of families involved, and indifference from higher authorities. I highly recommend this captivating novel.
