“The House on Mountain Laurel Lane” by Eileen Goudge is a captivating and heartfelt novel. The Genres for this book are Friendship Fiction, Women’s Domestic Life Fiction and Family Life Fiction. I enjoyed and highly recommend this memorable and thought-provoking book. In this well written story, the author vividly describes the scenery, plot and the colorful, dramatic, and complex characters. The female protagonist, Jo Myers, is having a difficult time, after her husband Sean passes away. She goes through the motions of living with her two young daughters. A good friend shows her a video that Sean had made for her to see after he passed away. He wants her to buy a house with his daughters, and find happiness.

The house that Jo finds is the same one that she and her husband dreamed of. It does come with a tenant, an older helpful man, who lives downstairs, but uses the kitchen and laundry facilities. That certainly helps with the mortgage, and although Jo was hesitant about the arrangements at first, she finds that the man is very helpful. Jo has some supportive friends, and her daughters start to adjust. I appreciate how the author discusses the importance of family, friends, cherishing memories and making new ones.
