Megan Abbott, the Author of “El Dorado Drive” has written an edgy, suspenseful and captivating novel. The Genres for this novel are : Psychological Literary Fiction, Mystery, Suspense, and Fiction. There are secrets, betrayals, twists and turns, danger, threats, and murder. The three Bishop sisters had grown up in a wealthy and comfortable home in Detroit, until the economy collapsed. Debra, the oldest sister is married to a man fighting cancer. Pam, the middle sister is in the middle of a catastrophic divorce. Her ex- husband has been using the children’s college funds, and hiding money. Harper is the youngest sister, barely making ends meet. Some of the other characters are complex, complicated, greedy, manipulative, and quirky.
Pam has been doing well financially after joining a special woman’s club, known as the wheel. Pam and Debra convince Harper to join. Pam feels that this Women’s club helps empower women, and make them financially comfortable and independent from their spouses. There is a buy in, and this club is supposed to be secretive. Each of the sisters have their own secrets and agendas.
There is a murder, and there are several suspects. I read this book in one sitting, and couldn’t guess who the suspect/s were. I enjoyed the suspense, the clues, and the author’s vivid descriptions of the characters. I highly recommend this thrilling chiller for other readers.
