I loved everything about “Where Light Lingers” by Ashley Farley. The genres for this book are : People with Disabilities, Inspirational Religious Fiction, Family Life Fiction, Fiction, and a touch of Magical Realism. This well written book is inspirational, memorable, and thought-provoking. The author vividly describes the colorful and dramatic characters as complex and complicated. Selwyn has cared for her ailing parents for six years. After her mother passes away, Selwyn is extremely despondent, until a ‘bright light” in the form of a stranger “Blossom” appears. Blossom reminds me of a magical Mary Poppins from the “Disney movies” Blossom seems to have the ability to know what Selwyn’s needs are, and a helpful timing. Selwyn has a successful career, but never was able to have her own children with her ex-husband. Now she is in a big mansion, with an overgrown garden.
Blossom helps Selwyn find her sense of purpose. Several different characters enter Selwyn’s life, some from the past, and some from the present. Selwyn discovers that her parents kept secrets from her and feels betrayed. I appreciate how the author discusses important topics such as forgiveness, second chances, living with disabilities, healing, the importance of friends and family, love and hope. Blossom and her new friends help with the garden, and new roots take place. I would highly recommend this heartfelt and captivating book.
