Julie Hatcher, the Author of “Just Add Happiness” has added heartfelt and emotional ingredients in her recipe that makes this a well-written book. The Genres for this tasteful book are Fiction, Romance, Women’s Humorous Fiction, Divorce, Family, and Mothers and Daughters. The Author vividly describes the scenery, the plot, the food, and the dramatic and colorful characters. The characters can be described as complex, complicated, some sweet, and some salty, and spicy.

The Female Protagonist, Sophie Bianco has an estranged relationship with her sick mother, a protective relationship with her daughter, and an abusive and emotionally unbalanced relationship with her husband. Sophie finds baking adds to her happiness and also contributes to her being able to afford an attorney to divorce her narcissistic and bitter husband. Actually, Sophie has a unique idea to make cupcakes for parents that need them for their children’s birthdays in school and calls herself “The Invisible Baker”. The parents pass the cupcakes off as their own creations.

Before Sophie’s mother passes away, she reveals some dark secrets, that contribute to Sophie feeling vulnerable and having trust and feelings of no self worth. At every chance he gets, Sophie’s husband ignores or, or emotionally gaslights her. After Sophie’s mother passes away, Sophie gets the courage to see a Divorce Attorney, and her husband does everything in his power to make her life miserable. The house that Sophie inherits from her mother requires much fixing up, and Sophie looks for a job. She still is “The Invisible Baker”, but takes a job as a pastry chef. She tries to keep her baking job a secret.

I appreciate how the author discusses the importance of family, friends, courage to have a new beginning, self worth, love and hope. I enjoyed this wonderful story and highly recommend it.
