When I discovered that Linda Mahkovec, Author of “The Christmastime Series” had a new edition, “Christmastime 1946″ I was so thrilled. I think of drinking hot chocolate, baked cookies, seasonal decorations, family connections, holiday music, neighbors, friendships, warmth, hope and love when I read a Christmastime book by Linda Mahkovec. The genres are Historical Fiction, and Holiday Fiction, Set in 1946, men are returning to their original jobs before the war, replacing many women. Some of the women are trying to compensate and find new directions. Some men have returned with problems.
Linda Mahkovec visually takes us to Christmastime 1946, where seasonal preparations are being made, and we visit with characters from the other books. The Author vividly describes the colorful and dramatic characters as complex, complicated, kind, searching for self worth and direction, resourceful and hopeful. I appreciate that the author discusses the sacrifices and courage that women had during the war, working difficult and dangerous jobs, volunteering, and taking care of their families. That has all changed as men enter the workforce.
I enjoy the optimistic feel that Linda Mahkovec adds to her books, and making the best of difficult times. I highly recommend this enjoyable, and intriguing novel! I can’t wait for more books in this series.
