Julianne MacLean has written an emotional, magical and thought-provoking novel. I love the descriptions of Nova Scotia, and the majestic, rough and troubled waters. In this well written novel, the author vividly and visually describes the scenery, landscape, and the dark and colorful characters. The characters are complex, complicated and flawed. The female Protagonist, Sienna MacKay is 19 years old when she finds her first love and her dreams. Unfortunately tragedy occurs, and Sienna has suffered a major loss. Years later, Sienna has a second chance at love, has a successful career, and wonderful children.

Sienna feels a loss when her husband is always working at his career as a chef. He isn’t emotionally available to her, and never there for her children. Again, tragedy occurs, and Sienna finds herself between both worlds, the past and present, and has to make the courageous decision to live or die, or to stay or go? Sienna has to decide what true love is. I appreciate how the author discusses the importance of family, friends, communication, second chances, forgiveness, hope and love. I would highly recommend this captivating novel.
