Wow! Wow! Wow! My head is spinning after just finishing “Good Me, Bad Me” by Ali Land. The genres for this book are Psychological Thriller, Thriller, Mystery and Adult Fiction. This is an intense book that keeps the reader captivated. The inside cover has a blurb that says,”ANNIE’S MOTHER IS A SERIAL KILLER” “The only way to make her stop was to turn her into the police. Annie wants badly to be good.” Kudos to author Ali Land for commanding the reader’s attention.”
The timeline for the story is in the present, and told in the past only to present pertinent and relevant details to the crime scenes or characters.
The author describes the characters as complex and complicated. Annie has a new identity, Millie, a new life, and a new family. Millie suffers tremendous psychological trauma as she tries to work out pressure and stress issues with the psychologist, who is also her foster-dad. Millie has to prepare to go to court where her mother will be on trial. There are major adjustments in the new foster home, school, friends for Millie.
There are twists and turns and mind-games that occur in the story. Some of the characters are bullies. There are really some surprising situations that I never expected.
There are secrets. With everything going on Milly fears that she is her mother’s daughter. I would recommend this story for readers who enjoy intense psychological thrillers. Thank you to Flatiron Books for this Advanced Reading Copy (ARC) for my honest review.
