My Review of  “Sister’s Like Us” by Susan Mallery    MIRA BOOKS, January, 2018

Kudos to Susan Mallery, Author of “Sisters Like Us” for such an entertaining, heartwarming, and enjoyable family story. The Genres for this story are Fiction and Women’s Fiction. The story takes place in Mischief Bay, a small beach-town community in California.

The author describes her colorful cast of characters as complex, complicated, dysfunctional and in most cases, likeable people that we can relate to.

I appreciate that Susan Mallery writes about WOMEN, mothers, daughters, grandmothers, friends and their relationships. I also like that the author describes the old-fashioned traditional role of women in society, and the modern women that choose to have a professional life and other women that have and want it all. This is SISTERHOOD at its best, with all positive and negative things that life throws their way.

How could anyone not love a book that includes pets? There are pets, and they have an important part in this story as well.

The author weaves her tale around two sisters that are so different in many ways, and love and support one another. Harper is a divorced hardworking woman, trying to make ends meet for her and her teenage daughter Becca. Harper is extremely creative in so many ways and her business involves a lot of time and creativity. She is a virtual assistant.

On the other hand, Stacey, is a brilliant scientist, has a successful career, and a loving husband. Stacey is also forty, and pregnant. Stacey’s wonderful husband Kit is willing to be a stay at home dad.

Their quirky mom, Bunny comes from more of a traditional generation, where it is the woman’s responsibility to take care of the husband, children and the house. She takes this quite to heart, and often there are some witty confrontations with her two daughters.

This book is part of “The Mischief Bay” series and can be read as a stand- alone. I really look forward to reading the next novel in the series. I highly recommend this captivating and endearing story to readers that enjoy Women’s Fiction. I received an Advanced Reading Copy for my honest review.
