Valerie Taylor, the author of “What’s Not Said” has written a thought-provoking, intriguing and memorable story that revolves around secrets, betrayals and unpredictable events. The genres for this story are domestic fiction, contemporary fiction, women’s fiction and fiction. There is a dash of romance, and suspense added to this story. The timeline is set in the author’s present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events. The author describes her characters as flawed, complicated and complex.

In a relationship, if “something is not said, would you consider that something truthfully and honest communication? Kassie is determined to divorce her emotionally abusive and demanding husband, until she finds out that he is very sick. When he goes to the hospital, and she has to get some of his things, she realizes that her husband has kept secrets, and has betrayed her. Her husband also kept his poor health diagnosis hidden from Kassie as well.

Kassie has not been honest either in communicating with her husband. There are secrets she has kept from him as well. There are many surprises and unexpected coincidences that had me at the edge of my seat. I would highly recommend this thought-provoking and intriguing novel for other readers.
