Lindas Book Obsession Reviews “Runaway Train” by Lee Matthew Goldberg, April 29, 2021. On Suzy Approved Book Tours
Lee Matthew Goldberg, the author of “Runaway Train” literally takes us on an intriguing adventure. The genres for the novel are Young Adult, Coming of Age, and Fiction. The author describes his protagonist “…as an out-of-control train about to crash.” The timeline for this story is set in the 1990s and for those who enjoy the music, it is memorable and refreshing to revisit. The author describes his characters as complex and complicated. It is an era of exploration and finding oneself.
High school student Nico, armed with her car, a bucket list, her father’s gas card, and listening to loads of music “escapes” or runs away to find herself. After Nico’s older sister dies of a brain aneurism, Nicole struggles to find the meaning of life. Her quirky friends encourage her to go. Nico follows her mellow aunt’s advice and is open to meeting new people and having new experiences.
Nico’s parents are still grieving in their way, and seem not to be aware of how she is hurting. They have some secrets as well. I recommend this book to others.
