Lindas Book Obsession Reviews “Seven Perfect Things” by Catherine Ryan Hyde, May 4, 2021
Wow! Catherine Ryan Hyde, the author of “Seven Perfect Things” has written a captivating,
heartfelt and memorable novel. The Genres for this book are Literary Fiction, and Fiction. For
those animal lovers, such as myself, I promise that you will be smiling and saying, “Awwww” to
yourself. It is amazing how we can forget where we can find love. The author vividly describes the
characters, and events. The timeline of the story is set in the author’s present. The author
describes her characters as complex and complicated. I love that the author writes about
friendships of different ages, determination, happiness, courage, love and hope.
Abby is a 13 year old girl that witnesses a man throw a bag into the water. She is a determined and
fierce swimmer, and gets the back and discovers 7 puppies.
Abby tries to bring them to the pound and when she discovers they have no room, and what they
intend to do with the puppies, so Abby finds an abandoned shed and takes care of them there.
Elliot, is the owner of the house and shed, and is returning for a quiet visit after the death of his
wife. He is quite surprised to find the puppies and Abby. Elliot, once an avid hunter, has lost the
desire to hunt animals or fish. He has changed his feelings about living and dying.
Abby is in love with the puppies and notices their individual personalities and gives them names.
She cleans up and lovingly plays with them.
Abby’s father is a mean-spirited and abusive man to both Abby and her mother. I appreciate that
the author discusses emotional abuse, and of course taking care of animals. I highly recommend
this memorable, entertaining and thought-provoking novel.
