WOW! “The Homewreckers” by Mary Kay Andrews, is just the most incredible and marvelous novel to take us into summer. I highly recommend this gratifying and delightful book for all readers. This is a 5 plus star read that encompasses Mary Kay Andrew’s storytelling at its best. I love everything about this book, and especially enjoy the vivid descriptions of the characters, the events, the landscape and setting!

The genres for this novel are Small Town and Rural Fiction, Contemporary Women’s Fiction, Contemporary Romance, and Mystery and Suspense. Also is a dash of humor and wit, that makes this such a delicious and entertaining book! The timeline for this story is set in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the events or characters. The author vividly describes her colorful and dramatic characters as complex, and complicated. One of the protagonists in the story, Hattie Kavanaugh, a young widow restores and cleans up older homes to flip them. Often Hattie finds herself in a position, where the house poses more problems and costs more to fix.

Hattie is surprised to be offered a reality TV show that would consist of restoration of one of her homes. Before she knows it, the producers add a “little love interest” to keep the viewers happy. Of course, the house that Hattie is restoring by the beach has unpredicted problems. One of the reasons that Hattie was able to acquire this house, was that the family hadn’t payed the taxes.

Surprisingly, the workers discover a wallet stuck in the old walls. This had belonged to a woman that has been missing for years. One of the dump trucks gets stuck in an older septic tank, where there is a major revelation and discovery.
