Hank Phillippi Ryan, the author of “The House Guest” has written a captivating and intriguing psychological thriller. There is a feel of Alfred Hitchcock in this book. I read “The House Guest” in one sitting, and never expected the surprising twists and turns of events.
The genres for this novel are thriller, mystery, suspense, and psychological thriller. There are betrayals, secrets, gaslighting, threats and danger. Be warned, this is one book, when you are not quite sure who is the hunter or the hunted.
The author vividly describes her dramatic characters as complex and complicated. Alyssa Macallan’s wealthy and controlling husband wants her out of his life. When Alyssa goes to a bar, she meets a new friend, Bree Lorrance, who seems to be down on her luck. Alyssa invites Bree to stay with her in her Guest House.
Somehow the FBI contacts Alyssa to inform her that her husband is under investigation, and she is also suspect for certain crimes. Alyssa is overwhelmed and not sure what to do. Alyssa is so grateful that Bree is there for her, but is that really true? Everyone seems to be suspect of something. What is the truth? I highly recommend this amazing novel.
