Mary Carroll Moore, the author of “Last Bets” has written a captivating and intriguing novel. The genres for this novel are: Women’s Fiction, Art in Fiction, and Para-Normal Fiction. I enjoyed this well-written and face paced adventure set on an exotic island, Bonaire, where gambling, diving, art and last bets occur. The author vividly describes the colorful scenery and the colorful and dramatic characters.

I love the way the author sets Art in Literature, and gives the paintings a life of their own. Elly Sorensen, has para -normal visions she often uses in her paintings. Elly is known for her specific type of painted portraits. After her estranged husband passes away, Elly is forced to find a way to pay his debts and save her home. Elly is headed to this island to finish a painting of a client for the commission. On the island, Elly meets a young teenager, Rosie, that reminds her of her late sister. Rosie is with her father, who gambles, and often visits the rooms in the hotel and scouts out the possessions of the guests. Rosie is also a novice painter, and immediately notices Elly’s paintings.

Scuba diving is offered, and Rosie helps take visitors out. In the background there is a major hurricane forming. There are secrets, betrayals, and danger. Elly finds herself drawn to this trouble, and may have to make last bets to keep her estate. I highly recommend this amazing book, with a glorious setting, intriguing characters, a dangerous storm brewing, and life-making bets.
