Caroline Leavitt is both a master in writing and story telling, and I loved everything about her latest book “Days of Wonder”. This is a multi-layered, thought provoking, family saga that is heartfelt, captivating, and provocative book. The Genres for this novel are Coming of Age, City Life Fiction, Women’s Literature, Mother-Daughter, Family, and Fiction. This is a novel about second chances, forgiveness, redemption, betrayal, honesty with mystery and suspense. The author vividly describes her colorful and dramatic characters as complex and complicated, flawed, and dysfunctional. Caroline Leavitt also describes some families as toxic, and describes the importance of family, friends, love, courage, forgiveness, and hope. This book also explores the justice system and its flaws, as well as the difference between the rich and poor class.

Ella Fitchburg is never quite sure what happened the day that her boyfriend Jude’s father was poisoned. Ellas was devastated at the betrayal of her love, Jude, and her imprisonment for several years. Ella was sure her and Jude’s love would last forever, even though they were very young. Ella’s mother Helen convinced her to give the baby she had in prison for adoption, and Ella always regretted it. Upon Ella’s early release, she realizes that she has “felon” on her record and that will make her life difficult.

Ella is determined to find her baby and moves to uncover the truth. Ellas is courageous and determined to find a job and start a new life, not realizing the obstacles that can deter her. This is an amazing, memorable, and thought-provoking novel that I highly recommend. Kudos to Caroline Leavitt for writing such an inspiring and extraordinary novel.
