Leslie Kain, the Author of “What Lies Buried” has written an intense and psychological thriller sequel to “Secrets in the Mirror”. In this well written novel, the author vividly describes the plot, scenery and dramatic characters. Gavin is Married to Katie, and they have a young daughter. After Gavin’s twin brother’s death, and Gavin’s abuse at his toxic and dysfunctional family, he is suffering from Complex PTSD. Gavin has to revisit Boston to settle his father’s estate, and has to come to terms with all the betrayals, gaslighting, and secrets, in order to avoid disabling triggers.
Katie is determined, and courageous, and is keeping her family safe. They have a support dog, and there is psychological support from family, and friends, and professionals. Both Katie and Gavin look to keep their loved ones safe. Unfortunately, Gavin is dealing with the ghosts of his family, and the mob. One of the properties that he has to decide to sell or keep, holds many deep secrets.
Gavin is having nightmares, and attacks from triggers. He is not behaving the way Katie is used to seeing. Katie has to determine whether she can help and save Gavin, and keep her family together. Katie has secrets of her own. I appreciate how the author encourages mental support and help for people suffering from Complex PTSD. I would highly recommend this intense and thought-provoking novel.
