Shannon Nering, the Author of “The Mother Vine: How I Healed My Heart With Ayahuasca” has written an intriguing and unique memoir. The Genres for this book are : Memoir, Nonfiction, Family and Person Growth, Occult Metaphysical Phenomena, and Personal Transformation and Spirituality. The Author does work with people nutritional counseling and the benefits of fasting. This is the author’s journey of drinking Ayahuasca, a plant and other plants that help one purge, hallucinate and describes the mysterious medicinal purpose of healing. The Author has relocated with her husband and two sons to a farm in Kanai, for a simpler life. The boys miss their friends, and convenient places to go. The Author misses friendship, and tries to embrace her family’s new life, as well as her tense job of a TV career in Canada. The author had to leave her 15 year old dog with her sister to come to Kanai.
The author honestly writes about the disappointments and tragedies of Mother Nature such as Hurricanes, storms, bugs, and isolation in their new location. The boys constantly are fighting, and the police are called in one day from all the noise. Shannon Nering is almost ready to pack it in and go back to Canada. The Author does meet local people that introduce her to Ayahuasca and other plants to help her cope and live her best life. Although this lifestyle is not for me, this intriguing memoir is thought-provoking.
