Wow! Madeline Martin, the Author of “A Time of Witches” has written a mesmerizing, powerful, spellbinding, and captivating novel. I loved everything about this book, and especially enjoyed the timelines of two women related by blood, the secrets, betrayals, spells, and dangers. The Genres for this book are : Historical Fiction, Fantasy, Fiction, Witches, Sisterhood, and Adventure. The timelines in this book are 1645 in, and in the present. The story takes place in Brackenmere Manor in England, and in Savannah. In this intense and well written story, the author vividly describes the spooky and scary landscape and scenery, and the dark dramatic characters. The characters are complex, complicated, and flawed. Some are quirky. There are both good and evil characters. Around 1645, there were ‘Witch Hunts”, and many innocent women were tortured by their male captors, sentenced to death. In 1645, Sybil Brantham, a wealthy and educated woman is to be tried as a witch, but wants to save her family member, Jacinda.
In the present Lilith Legare has strange dreams and premonitions. She relates to both plants and animals. After visiting a fortune teller, Lilith is told she will totally disappear unless she helps another woman that is in her dreams. That woman is Sybil, and Lilith travels to England for clues to save both of them. There are twists and turns, many surprises, highs and lows, danger, magic and spells. I couldn’t put this book down. I highly recommend this intriguing novel.
