He lives in Bowling Green, Kentucky, with his wife, writer Molly McCaffrey.
David Bell not only has an amazing way of writing and telling a story, he is a really kind and nice guy. I am a big fan of his novels, and David was really very gracious to answer my questions.
Linda: What is your inspiration or motivation for writing your stories?
David Bell: As, a kid, I loved to read. So at some point it made sense to try the kinds of stories I loved to read. For me, its also just the fun of creating something out of nothing–characters, locations, stories. It can be a long, frustrating process at times, but a lot of the days are fun and inspiring.
Linda: What would you like your readers to take away with them after reading your stories?
David Bell: First and foremost, I want them to be entertained. I want them to be sitting in be at midnight saying,”I’ll just read one more chapter.” And then it’s 3:00AM and they’re still going. That’s the goal. Beyond that, I hope they’re moved or touched by something a character, a scene, a line, an image. Anything, I hope the story stays with them after they close the book. Those are the best stories.
Linda : Do you ever base your characters in the story on people you know?
David Bell: HA! Do you want me to get sued??? Never directly from one person. I steal and borrow from everything and everyone I see. All writers do that, but it’s never a direct copy of a real person.
Linda: You teach, you write, what do you do for relaxation in your downtime? (hobbies)
David Bell: I love watching movies and TV. There are too many good things to keep up with. I love reading of course. It’s almost as much fun to read someone else’s story as it is to write my own. And there are a lot of great books to read. Beyond, that I’m very interested in beer, grilled cheese, and Twix.
Linda: What stories are you writing about in the future? Can you share any clues or “tiny” details?
David Bell: Hmmm…..”SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER” will be out in July. It’s about a married man who gets a surprise when his ex-wife shows up on hi doorstep looking for a missing child. And I’m hard at work on a new book that will be out in 2019. STAY TUNED…….
Linda: How would you like readers to contact or connect with you?
David Bell: They can find me on Facebook @David Bell Twitter, Instagram @davidbellnovels, or good old-fashioned email. I love hearing from readers, so fire away.
