Linda’s Book Obsession Reviews “The Candle Palace” by Deveny Perry, August 20, 2019
Devney Perry, Author of “The Candle Palace” has written an amazing, emotional, thought-provoking and romantic novel. The Genres for this novel are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, and Romance. The timeline for this story is in the present and anything in the past pertains to the characters or events in this story. The author describes her characters as each having their strengths and weaknesses.
Sara Foster is a nurse in a Burn Unit in the hospital and has seen patients in the worst physical condition and horrific pain. Wherever she can offer them comfort she does. One of the teenage patients loves candles, and Sara brings her colorful battery-operated candles.
One new admission, Milo Phillips was badly burned in an explosion. He is in terrible pain and very badly scarred. Milo blames himself and sometimes is very testy with the staff. Milo warms immediately to Sara’s presence in the room. Sara seems to be his bright light. Only hospital rules necessitate having certain rules in place.
I appreciate that the author discusses important topics such as scarring and looking different in society, drugs and alcohol, and dysfunctional family and work situations. I also love that the author talks about the importance of family, friends, love, emotional support and hope. I highly recommend this wonderful book.
