Nan Rossiter, author of “Promises of the Heart” has beautifully written an endearing, emotional, heartwarming, poignant, captivating and memorable novel. The genres for this story are fiction and women’s fiction. The timeline for this story is in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events. The author describes her characters as mostly likable, kind, and people you would want for neighbors.  There are some adorable animals in this novel as well.

Nan Rossiter has a wonderful way of telling her story and vividly describes her characters and setting. I appreciate that the author discusses the importance of family, friendship, giving, kindness, love, and hope.  The author also mentions that not everything in life is perfect, but if you believe and have hope, things can get better.

Macey and Ben Samuelson are happily married and have had some difficult times and disappointments. More than anything, they would like a family. Macey talks Ben into adopting a three-legged dog that is very gentle and sweet. Before long, Keeper, the dog is part of the family.

At her job, Macey meets a young girl who needs a foster home. Harper is nine years old and is one determined and stubborn little girl. Harper keeps being sent to other foster homes. Cora, her social worker, wishes that she could find a forever home for Harper. Unfortunately, Harper has other problems. This makes Macey and Ben wonder about children that need homes, and if they should have the chance.

This is a wonderful thought-provoking novel that I highly recommend. The story pulled at my heartstrings. This was a wonderful book to read especially during the crisis that we have been facing.
