Lindas Book Obsession Reviews “Freedom Lessons” by Eileen Harrison Sanchez, She Writes Press, Audio Version 2021. On Tour with Suzy Approved Book Tours
This audio version of “Freedom Lessons” by Eileen Harrison Sanchez, was mesmerizing, captivating and intriguing. This Historical Fiction and Fiction book reminds us how discriminating and tragic the times of “Segregation” were. The timeline for this novel is 1969, in Louisiana. The feel of the novel was authentic, and often more like a memoir or biography rather than a Historical Fiction Book. The author uses three different narrators to express their point of view. One is a white teacher, from New Jersey, who is married to a Hispanic soldier, one is a black High School senior who feels his way out of this town is a football scholarship, and the third is a black teacher.
The author vividly describes each narrator’s point of view, and is so relatable. I could feel the frustration, hopelessness, and anger of the characters. This is an important and timely reminder how important equality, freedom and self-worth are. I would highly recommend this book to other readers
