Judy Mollen Walters, the author of “Perfect All the Time” has written a thought-provoking and entertaining novel. The genres for this novel are Family Life Fiction, Women’s Domestic Life Fiction, and Contemporary Fiction. The author describes her dramatic characters as complex and complicated.
Elyse and Janet have been friends for ages, and seem to have the perfect friendship. Elyse’s daughter, Maddie is college-bound, and wants to be a doctor. Elyse is a top selling realtor.Although Elyse is divorced, her ex-husband lives in a house near her house, so Maddie has both parents close.
Janet and her husband are financially well set, and Janet stays at home. She is a nurse, but her husband feels she doesn’t need to work. They have a wonderful son Chip, who is athletic, and also college-bound. Everything seems so perfect, doesn’t it?
It appears that Maddie and Chip have been best friends with “benefits”, and the result is that Maddie is pregnant. How is this going to affect Maddie’s and Chip’s college plans? How will Elyse and Janet handle this newsworthy surprise? What about their fathers?
I appreciate that Judy Mollen Walters discusses contemporary issues. Divorce, coming of age, college decisions, and teen-age pregnancy are some of the topics that are described. The author writes with compassion and wit. The author also describes the importance of family, friendship, communication, and meeting new challenges. I would highly recommend this enjoyable and thought-provoking novel.
