Linda’s Book Obsession Reviews “Reckonings” by Karen E. Osborne, Black Rose Writing, June 2022, On tour with Suzy Approved Book Tours

I was captivated and intrigued by “Reckonings” by Karen E. Osborne. The genres for this novel are Women’s Fiction and Suspense. The author vividly describes the events, characters, plot and scenery. Karen E. Osborne describes the characters as complex and complicated. There are family secrets, betrayals, threats, and poor decisions, greed, control, power, and lies. Some of the characters have good intentions, but are easily misled.

The protagonist of the story, Roxy is a Black woman author, with a loving husband and 4 children. Roxy’s teenage daughter is pregnant. Roxy has had a difficult past. Her mother abandoned her when she was young, and a former boyfriend raped her. Although she believes that the pregnant daughter belongs to her husband and her, there is a doubt of the blood father. Roxy is involved in helping the community by bringing the theater to life. Unfortunately, the former boyfriend shows up in town, with promises of making the theater and town wealthy. Can a leopard change its spots? Roxy’s husband and family do not know of this tragic part of her life.

I appreciate that the author discusses issues such as rape, and betrayals. The author also mentions the importance of family, sisterhood, honesty, love and hope. I would highly recommend this thought-provoking novel.
