Anju Gattani, the author of “Dynasties” has written an intriguing and captivating novel. This is the first in a series, and I look forward to reading the other books. The author vividly describes the characters, the settings, and the events. The story takes place in a more modern India, where there is a conflict between traditional and modern cultures. There also is the contrast of wealthy and poor families. Anju Gattani describes her characters as complex and complicated. There is manipulation, scheming, betrayals, secrets and lies.
Sheetal Prasad is a 22 year old artist, who has fallen in love with a young man. Her parents are traditional, and have someone in mind for her to marry. Her parents want Sheetal to marry Rakesh Dhanraj, a wealthy older man. That would combine the two families. Sheetal does marry Rakesh, and wonders if she should have listened to her heart. Her mother-in-law makes the adjustment for Sheetal difficult, and Sheetal becomes aware of disturbing actions.
When Sheetal has a son, she is faced with making decision that will assure her son’s safety. I appreciate that the author discusses important topics, such as mental and physical abuse, addiction, and mental illness . The author also writes about honesty, communication, self-worth, hope and love. I highly recommend this story to others.
