Connie Richardson has written a heartfelt, and emotional young adult novel. I highly recommend this positive coming of age novel. The Genres for this book are : Teen and Young Adult Fiction About New Experiences, Teen and Young Adult Coming of Age, Teen and Young Adult Sports Fiction, Adventure and Fiction. Connie Richardson vividly and visually describes the scenery, landscape, and the colorful and dramatic characters. The characters each have their own problems, and are complex, complicated, and also have “growing pains”. When Natalie Ryba is forced to leave her high school and friends behind at a critical point in her development, she is apprehensive. She moves to a different area, and forced to make new friends, adjustments in school, and relate to an estranged grandmother. What seem impossible turns into a major positive life-story. Natalie meets a handsome neighbor that teaches her to “fly fish”. Natalie surprises herself by adapting to new adventures and experiences, and is having fun. She also learns other outdoors sports. Natalie learns what friendship is, and new experiences lead to, and becomes more comfortable and independent. This was an entertaining and thought-provoking novel.
