Mary Kendall, the Author of “The Redux of Sam Murdock” has written a unique and intriguing novel. The Author vividly describes the scenery, landscape, and the dark and dramatic characters. The characters can be described as complex, complicated, flawed, eccentric, quirky, dysfunctional and each has their own problems. Sam Murdock is a middle aged family man in the middle of a family crisis. His marriage is troubled, his kids are hostile, and he discovers that his beloved deceased grandfather once shot a man. This looks like the perfect escape and opportunity for Sam and his quirky college buddy Godfrey to find out about Sam’s family ancestry. They travel a dangerous but enlightening path to a superstitious, dark town, where Sam’s family come from. There are strange cult like activities that at times are frightening. I recommend this thought-provoking and challenging novel.
