Wow! Boo Walker, the Author of “The English Bookstore in Bologna” has written a captivating, intriguing, memorable and thought-provoking novel. The Genres for this book are : Fiction, Historical Fiction, Books, Contemporary Fiction, Italy and Romance. What can be more breathtaking and beautiful than the background of Italy for a quaint bookstore for Expats? The Author vividly describes the scenery, the landscape, the plot and the colorful and dramatic characters in this well written story. The five main characters can be described as unique, complex, complicated, quirky, troubled, and dysfunctional in their own ways. I love how the author uses wit, compassion, and empathy to also describe his characters. Each of the characters has secrets, and has to find who they are, and what they really want to do.
The owner of the bookstore, Sandy Cooke has a hard exterior, and doesn’t warm up to other people. Sandy keeps a very small Romantic section in the store, and has a cat to keep her company. Her assistant Moira is very timid, has some great ideas about a book community, book clubs, and authors visiting. Biana, is a Psychotherapist that has written a self-help book, has issues of her own, and is very insecure. Her father George, retired comes to visit her in Bologna, and is very depressed. Harold is a young adult trying to be what he is not, and falls in love with a girl that breaks his heart. All of these characters lives become intertwined in this special Bookstore.
I laughed and cried, and I loved every moment of this thought-provoking and memorable book. I highly recommend this to everyone.
