OMG! Janyre Tromp, the Author of “Burning the Raven Tree” has written a unique, intense, powerful, chilling thriller. Warning: Read with Caution before Bedtime! I was up all night after reading “Burning the Raven Tree”. There is so much symbolism and different genres that had me reeling. The Genres for well thought out and well written book are : Mythology, Folklore, Witch and Wizard Thrillers, Magical Realism, Historical Fiction, Mystery, Suspense, Psychological Thriller,Gothic Historical Mystery, Cold Case Mystery, and Polish and Ukranian Myths and Folklore. There are betrayals, dysfunctional and twisted family dynamics ,secrets, twists and turns, danger, arson, poisoning, threats and murder. Janyre Tromp vividly describes the horrific thriller scenes, the plot/s, and the dramatic, dark and suspect characters. There is good and evil.
This story takes place in Northern Michigan, and revolves around a tragedy for more than a millennium. There is a Tree, with grief, and tales of tragedy. By the way, this tree is based on a non-fiction version. There are two twin sisters, and secrets and sadness. Colwyn Cueny, is called a “Raven Witch”, thought of as a child killer, and locks her twin sister away. Marcus, an attorney only sees a broken woman. There are many stories that circulate in the small town about Colwyn. Some characters are not as they seem, and some dead characters are not dead. The timeline for this story is set in 1960s in this gothic thriller. As secrets, unravel, the truth is terrifying and surprising. I highly recommend this intense story.
