I would like to thank NetGalley, Oceanview Publishing, and TJ Turner for the ARC of “Land Of Wolves:The Return of Lincoln’s Bodyguard” for my honest review.
The genres of this novel are General Fiction, Adult Fiction, Historical Fiction and Alternative Fiction.
The author writes that he has done historical research during this period, It seems that the author used Poetic License to change some names, and dates to accommodate the story line.
In this novel, a question is asked. “What if President Abraham Lincoln had lived the assassination attempt, how would history be changed?”From the blurb,”What would have America looked like if Lincoln lived?”
Joseph Foster, the former president’s body guard and his wife Molly are still living near Lincoln and children. Lincoln has resigned as president.
In this timeline, it is after the Civil War, and Johnson is president. The Consortium, or the Confederation of Industrial Barons is taking over and seeking wealth. Their power is evident in Congress, and they want to see President Johnson impeached. The people involved with the Consortium are dangerous and threaten, kidnap and kill to achieve their goals.
Joseph’s daughter is kidnapped, and his mother is killed by members of the Consortium who want to manipulate him in helping them with their goals. Joseph is half Indian and often associate himself with wolves.
This is the second book in a series. The characters are complicated. The plot is complicated. Although it could be a stand alone, I found myself trying to piece certain information together.
There is adventure, bloodshed, fighting with the Consortium and there are descriptive battles with the Indians.
I found certain parts of the book confusing, and I had a hard time envisioning this version of Lincoln. There are some intriguing parts of this book.
