My Review of “Memory House” by Bette Lee Crosby

I was captivated and enthralled by the magical and memorable novel, “Memory House” by Bette Lee Crosby. Bette Lee Crosby writes such a vivid and descriptive novel with an intriguing cast of characters. The Genres for this Novel are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Romance and Magical Realism.

The author describes the characters as complex, complicated, and quirky. Some of the characters have special abilities.  Ophelia Browne who is ninety years old lives in an old house filled with memories, and items that seem to have memories. Ophelia has a gift in keeping and getting memories from others, especially through objects. It is Ophelia’s goal to find a successor to be able to hold and keep these memories when  Ophelia is no longer living.

Annie Cross is heartbroken, and somehow she is drawn to this house of memories. Ophelia seems to realize that Annie also seems to possess this gift. The two form a friendship and Annie learns to garden and use herbs from Ophelia.  As Ophelia shares some of her prized possessions and reveals the memories, Annie starts to realize that she is reacting to memories as well.  Annie becomes obsessed with a broken bicycle and a ball that is in the house. Annie is on a quest to find out who the bicycle belonged to.

Ophelia starts to worry when some of Annie’s memories seem to be dangerous.  I love the interaction between Ophelia and Annie.  The “Memory House” is an exceptionally entertaining and enjoyable story that I highly recommend.
