Wow! Eliza Knight, the Author of “Lost in the Summer of ’69” has written a memorable, thought-provoking, captivating and powerful novel. I love everything about this book. Three generations of women from one family take a special soul searching journey to find one another and themselves. The Musicians and Singers, and their songs contribute to the wonderful ambiance of this well written story. The Genres for this book are: Historical Fiction, Musical History, Summer Reads, Family, Adventure, Romance and Fiction. Eliza Knight vividly describes the music of the timeline, the landscape, the plot, and the dramatic and colorful characters. The characters are complex, complicated, flawed, quirky, talented, and each have their own problems. The three female protagonists are related. Eleanor, the Grandmother has a medical diagnosis of Alzheimers, and wants to experience her last hurrah. Her daughter, Leanne is sandwiched between the two generations. Her marriage is disappointing, and her daughter will be going away to college. Nora has plans to go to Yale, but really wishes she could study what she wants.

All this changes in a moment when Eleanor and her special dog disappear. Eleanor is ready to fill her bucket list, and is going to a summer tour of concerts to sing. Nora hears her Grandmother on the radio, and Leanne and Nora take the car and go on a roadtrip to get Eleanor. It is one way for mother and daughter to finally communicate. Eleanor and her dog are quite popular, and the crowds and entertainers love them. Eleanor seems to adapt to the musical community.

I appreciate how the author describes Alzheimers and dementia, marital problems and seeking help, and the pressures of going away to college. The author discusses the importance of self-worth, finding yourself, the importance of family, love and hope. I highly recommend this entertaining and witty novel.
